3M N95 Particulate RespiratorCHAMPAIGN - State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) encourages community members, groups and businesses to donate unused personal protective equipment (PPE) to their local health departments, hospitals and first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The shortage of personal protective equipment like masks, gloves and face shields have created a desperate need for healthcare workers,” Bennett said. “If you have essential supplies, please donate them to help protect patients, providers and staff during this critical time.”
Health workers are in need of the following items:
• Masks (N-95, earloop, and surgical)
• Gowns (isolation and non-descriptive)
• Gloves (nitrile, sterile and surgical)
• Face shields and goggles
• Infection control kits
• Hand Sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol)
• Disinfectant wipes
• Thermometers (forehead only)

Individuals who would like to donate hand-sewn masks should first check the guidelines set forth by the individual hospital.
The following area hospitals have announced they are currently accepting donations of hand-sewn face masks that have elastic or cotton straps, as well as their guidelines and instructions:
Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana: At this time, Carle has a sufficient supply of surgical masks and other PPE for clinicians and continues to follow CDC guidance for the safety of patients and staff. For those who wish to make masks, the following criteria must be followed:
• Make masks following these directions 
• Bundle 25 masks in sealed zip lock bag
• Carle will schedule pick up for packages of sewn masks from porches within Champaign and Vermilion Counties. Pick up must be arranged by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
OSF Healthcare - Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana; Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville: OSF HealthCare is accepting donations of homemade masks to help protect Mission Partners who provide support services. If you are interested in pitching in by putting your sewing abilities to good use, please make masks following these directions.
• Donation drop-off hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drop-off bins are located outside of the building at the following locations:
   o Danville – OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, 812 N. Logan Ave.
   o Urbana – OSF Health of Mary Medical Center, 1400 W. Park St.
