DANVILLE – To help Vermilion County residents protect themselves and their communities from COVID-19, State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) announced the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will operate two temporary COVID-19 testing sites in Vermilion County this weekend.

This Saturday, Oct. 3, IDPH will offer testing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hoopeston Area High School, located at 615 E. Orange St. in Hoopeston. On Sunday, Oct. 4, the mobile unit will be at the Vermilion County Health Department, located at 200 College St. in Danville, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Testing is key to fighting and ending the spread of COVID-19,” Bennett said. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of these free testing sites this weekend so we can get this virus under control and see our numbers improve.”

Anyone will be able to get tested at the site for free, regardless of symptoms. No appointment is necessary, but daily testing supplies are limited, so residents are encouraged to visit early.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough and shortness of breath. Other symptoms may include chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and new loss of taste or smell.

However, people with COVID-19 can spread the virus before they start showing symptoms, and some individuals may be asymptomatic. For this reason, IDPH recommends testing for anyone who has recently been part of a large gathering or has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus.
