URBANA – To raise awareness and to promote prevention of rising consumer fraud and identity theft, State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) is inviting Champaign County residents to participate in a community-wide shred event.

Bennett is partnering with the Urbana Free Library to host a free document shredding event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, in the eastern parking lot of the former Urbana Civic Center on East Water Street.

“The secure disposal of old and unneeded financial records is an important part of protecting yourself from fraud and identity theft,” Bennett said. “I encourage families to take advantage of this free community shred event to safely dispose of unwanted papers containing personal information.”

RANTOUL – To give more residents the opportunity to voice their comments and concerns, State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) is offering remote office hours at the Rantoul Public Library, located at 106 W. Flessner Ave., on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from noon to 1 p.m.

“Feedback and input from the people I represent is extremely important to me,” Bennett said. “My staff and I can offer a variety of services, like help with unemployment claims, FOID cards, state resources and much more. I encourage folks to stop by over their lunch hour.”

These office hours serve as an opportunity for residents to speak directly with Bennett’s staff to receive help with casework and other issues at the state level.

“The work I do every day is to help folks in our community,” Bennett said. “I encourage anyone who needs assistance, has ideas or just wants to talk to attend.”

RANTOUL – Motorists who have been unable to visit a driver services facility to renew their driver’s licenses and purchase vehicle stickers will be able to attend a free mobile unit event in Rantoul, sponsored by State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) in partnership with the secretary of state’s office.

The free event will be available to motorists Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rantoul Public Library, located at 106 W. Flessner Ave. in Rantoul.

“The secretary of state’s mobile unit is a one-stop shop to help people utilize these important state services,” Bennett said. “I encourage folks to take advantage of this safe and convenient way to renew driver’s licenses or vehicle registration next month.”
