DANVILLE – On Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) celebrated 190 years with the First Presbyterian Church in Danville.

Bennett attended the service and events to celebrate the significant milestone and presented a Senate Recognition to Pastor Ann Schwartz to commend this occasion.

“This place of worship and congregation has a tremendous history,” Bennett said. “I was delighted to participate in this celebration with the church community and recognize them in their place of worship yesterday.”

First Presbyterian Church was founded by eight charter members on March 7, 1829, shortly after the village of Danville became the Vermilion County seat in 1827. It was the church of Abraham Lincoln when his duties as an attorney brought him to Danville. The church is now an official Lincoln historical marker.

Today, First Presbyterian Church offers a variety of leadership opportunities in their community and devotes its ministries to serving, teaching and worshipping.

“This church continues to be an active, welcoming and vital place of worship,” Bennett said. “I congratulate the pastors, members and staff on their anniversary and their desire to be good and faithful servants, both in their church and in the community.”
