SPRINGFIELD – After being closed for nearly a month due to a surge of omicron variant cases of COVID-19, State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) is glad to see the secretary of state and driver services facilities reopening to the public on Jan. 24.
“I appreciate Secretary White prioritizing the health and safety of his employees and customers with the rise in COVID cases,” Bennett said. “The secretary of state’s office has thoughtfully planned out a way to reopen for folks to get the services they need and can complete their transactions safely.”
Driver services facilities operating on a Tuesday-Saturday schedule will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 25 for in-person transactions.
Customers who want to schedule an appointment at a driver services facility that requires appointments can do so starting on the morning facilities are back open. For a list of driver services facilities that require appointments, click here.
Bennett continues to encourage drivers to visit www.cyberdriveillinois.com to avoid waiting in line and take advantage of online services, including replacements and renewals of registrations, driver’s licenses and ID cards.
Expiration dates for driver's licenses and ID cards have been extended to March 31. Commercial driver's licenses (CDL) and CDL learner's permits are extended to Jan. 31, with expiration dates covered between Nov. 1, 2021 and Jan. 31, 2022. Additionally, the federal government has extended the REAL ID deadline until May 3, 2023.
