Bennett: Women’s reproductive rights are safe in Illinois

CHAMPAIGN – State Senator Scott Bennett (D-Champaign) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling to overturn the precedent of self-determination for generations of women:

“I am absolutely appalled at the Supreme Court’s ruling to block a woman’s right to choose to make their own choices when it comes to their reproductive health. This is a complete step in the wrong direction and it’s alarming that our progress is being crippled by this decision.

“Reproductive rights and bodily autonomy are the most basic and fundamental human rights. Fortunately, Illinois won’t suffer the same fate as other states, but I hope that our neighbors will take note of the actions the legislature has taken in recent years to protect the health and wellbeing of women across the country.”
